Take a skim, very good work! More to come!
Wonderful
See what others are saying on Andy Warhol, whose name will NEVER DIE: Thanks for the inspiration:
Almost since their sport's inception, skateboarders have made valuable contributions to the visual arts. Whether it's Ed Templeton's searing photographs and boldly eccentric paintings or Mark Gonzales' oddly sympathetic cartoon figures and "broken poems," many skaters have earned international acclaim for their creative endeavors.
Additionally, artists with a strong relationship to skateboarding -- such as Barry "Twist" McGee and Harmony Korine -- have often collaborated on creating the skateboards themselves. Even iconic pop artist Andy Warhol posthumously joined the club, when his estate teamed up with Alien Workshop to create a series of boards bearing some of Warhol's most resonant images. (One deck even depicts the equally-enigmatic Heath Kirchart spliced in between images of Warhol himself.)
So, whether you ultimately believe skateboarding is a sport or an art, what's undeniable is that a lot of skateboarders have been attracted to art and, likewise, a lot of artists have been attracted to skateboarding.
A short, but poignant, multihued watercolor animation of Jason Dill, by 22-year-old British artist Matthew Box, continues in this artistic vein. After Box posted the hauntingly beautiful Dill animation on his Vimeo account in October -- and the video was subsequently reposted on a number of influential blogs and forums -- he received a steady-stream of views and praise, even an interview request from the prestigious Atlantic magazine.
The work, the first of what Box envisions as an entire "Acid Drops" series commemorating individual pro-skaters, was created using a painstaking process known as rotoscopy. Though the film only runs 68 seconds it required Box to create nearly 400 individual paintings, which he would begin by tracing footage of Dill off an old computer monitor.
A lifelong insomniac, Box says he spent many restless hours burning the midnight-oil and watching "American sit-coms" and a Smiths documentary as he created the animation of the veteran skater, whom Chad Muska once described as "very artsy."
"Not many sports reward you for having your own weird style," said Box, when asked about skateboarding's penchant for attracting creative types. "It has a fantastic D.I.Y. ethic that runs through it."
Not surprisingly Box cites a diverse selection of artists as influences, some who can kickflip and some who cannot.
"Ed Templeton within the skateboarding world. I used to draw Toy Machine characters on my books at school," he says from his High Wycombe home, about a half-hour outside London. "I love David Hockney. A gallery opened in Nottingham while I was at university there, with a huge Hockney exhibition. It had his swimming pool paintings that I'm always amazed by. Water is such an impossible thing to paint."
But what, a reporter wondered, made him wake up one day and decide, "I need to make a poetic watercolor animation of Jason Dill set to a Tom Waits song ('Fawn')?" Had he been drinking/experimenting with any substances we should know about?
"I'm not really into narcotics," Box says. "To be honest, it's probably more the hallucinatory qualities of insomnia."

Chanel No. 5 Perfume Advertising Posters by Warhol
Here are some very beautiful Andy Warhol Art posters used by Chanel in 1997 on the streets of Paris. Andy Warhol created this design in the 1980's but, due to his unexpected early death, the images were not used until much later. The Chanel Art Print Posters measured approx 20" x 28" inches each. They are of the classic ladies perfume Chanel No. 5.

We want to invite all our readers to send any Warhol-related photos or pictures they may have, Thanks again Lisa!

Urban Toys of Andy Warhol: Vinyl Figure & Wooden Doll
Today there's a new "Urban Toys" art movement within the world of toy design where many young designers are creating their own special kind of art. Many of these people are very influenced by Warhol & consider him to be a big hero. So, it's no wonder, that they have made a few toys that resemble him. Here's one such example & I think it's pretty cool. It's funny he's holding a Campbell's Soup Can. Also, shown below, is a video featuring the largest "Art Army" action figure yet. He stands about 39" tall with 16 posable body part pieces. He's has removable accessories of a Super 8 Video Camera, a Campbell's Soup Can, & Sunglasses...very cool!
Vintage LP Record Albums with Andy Warhol Artwork
In music history there have been many different album covers featuring Andy Warhol artwork. Shown up above are just a few examples. The one of Count Basie is actually quite RARE. It used commercial art that Andy did in the 1950's. The one with the Rolling Stones Love You Live art was specially commissioned by Mick Jagger. The banana cover is for a band called the Velvet Underground which was owned by Warhol. This image is practically an icon & has been reproduced on hundreds of T-Shirts, The last one with Paul Anka's portrait was just that, a portrait. Mr. Anka hired Warhol to do a few paintings of him & later he chose this one to be an album cover. I thought this would be a neat post, hope ya like it.

We post 2 FREE Andy Warhol-inspired Desktop backgrounds every Wednesday. These 2 are from an art print warhol did in the 1980's of Sigmund Freud, "the father of psychoanalysis". Please feel free to use these in as a background in a MySpace Layout or just to decorate your PC desktop! The 1st one is a cropped version & the 2nd shows the full image ...nice colors, don'tcha think?!
MARK KOSTABI: Post-Modern Pop Artist Paintings
In the 1980's one of my favorite artists was a guy named MARK KOSTABI. He's still a favorite of mine today. He was kinda famous for being one of those artists who hardly ever paints his own paintings, a lot like Andy Warhol, ha ha. One of his gimmicks is to appropriate images from famous art masterpieces & blend them into his own artwork. Here's a few examples. If you look at his 3 paintings here you'll be sure to see examples from Art History. There's Marcel Duchamp, Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Matisse, Dali, & of course, Andy Warhol. Oh yeah, one last thing, the painting of the artist who has hung himself...that's a Desktop Wallpaper. Click on it for a larger version.

Video: "Would Andy Warhol Be a Better President than Nixon?!"
Just a quick post & a short video but it's kinda funny. It's a clip taken out of an interview where Warhol was asked if he would be a better President than Nixon. He later makes his famous comment about "Money for everybody".
Vintage 1960's Andy Warhol Soup Can Paper Dress & Some Designer Shoes
In the 1960's Andy Warhol designed a "High-Fashion" Paper Dress covered with multiple images of his famous Campbell's Tomato Soup Can art. These are quite RARE today. In fact, both collectors of Fine Art & Vintage Clothing collectors really love this item. They pop-up on eBay every now & then. I think it would be cool to have one framed flat for the wall. The next photo is a pair of "Soup Can" designer shoes made just a few years ago. They're handmade & very nice quality ( that means "expensive", ha ha! ). I don't think they were sanctioned by The Warhol Estate but made by some Mod-Style Shoe Designer as an homage to Andy. They're pretty cool though. Something that's kinda funny is I remember reading in THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES book about how when he did autograph events people would just shove cases of Campbell's Soup Cans in his face for him to sign & later he remarked, "Oh God, I am so sick of these cans"! Like as if he saw another can he would just barf, ha ha!
The Gayyyyest Watch I Have Ever Seen!
The other night I was checkin' out the Andy Warhol Store at the Official Warhol Museum site to look for a Christmas gift idea for a friend of mine. While there I saw this god-awful "Andy Warhol" Wrist Watch! This is the ugliest thing I have ever seen! Well, wait a minute, it's so incredibly bad that it might be cool. I think Andy would have like that, ha ha! Oh, here's some information about the watch: Swish Swiss Movement, Swarovski Crystals, Real Genuine Reptile Strap, Fancy Deployant Buckle, & a Special Custom Enamel Crown. What's "deployant" mean? ha Ha.

Vintage Advertising Print Ad: ABSOLUT WARHOL 1985
In 1985 Andy Warhol was invited to design an Art Print that was to become a magazine print ad for Absolut Vodka. It has always been one of my favorite pieces of vintage advertising. They also hired many other famous artists to do their advertising like Keith Haring, Romero Britto, Francesco Clemente, Fobia, Robert Indiana, Frank Kozik, Julian Schnabel, Herb Ritts, Peter Shire, Kenny Scharf, Wachtel, etc...wayyy too many to list here! Here's what it looked like.

Wacky Warhol Wallpaper Wednesday!!
At another blog of mine I post Desktop Wallpapers EVERY Wednesday so I thought I would do the same thing here too! Except, here, I'm gonna call it "Wacky Warhol Wallpaper Wednesday"!! You can use them to brighten your boring desktop or use as a background in a MySpace layout. The 1st one is a variation of the Green Self-Portrait Painting showing Andy in his famous fright-wig. I used this picture before but it's a little different. The 2nd one is a photo of the view in the foyer waiting room at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When you enter the front door of this establishment the HUGE Yellow Self-Portrait is the very 1st thing you see!
Video: Andy Warhol & Sonny Liston ( Famous Boxer ) Do a TV Commercial For Braniff International Airlines
In a previous post I showed the magazine print ad for Braniff International Airlines showing Andy Warhol & famous boxer Sonny Liston together. Well, here's the actual TV Commercial. It's kind of well known that they had to shoot this many times because Warhol was so nervous he screwed his lines up but notice that Liston doesn't have ANY speaking part at all, funny! It's also funny when Warhol says, "When ya got it, flaunt it".

Brand New Products: Wild & Wacky Andy Warhol Items
It's kinda strange how today there's a ton of Warhol-related products being made & a few of them are kinda weird or wacky! Like these: Here's a Set of 5 different real-life SNOWBOARDS that features Warhol's work on the bottom. There's the "Do-It-Yourself Flowers" painting, an Electric Chair from the Art Print Series, a Last Supper variation, a 1960's Flowers Painting, & my favorite, an Andy Warhol Self-Portrait. These are actually pretty cool & I think they would be great to display as art on the wall. The next item is a very small plastic-figure of Andy that is sort of ball-shaped, kinda cute really. This is a part of the current "Urban Toy" culture & made by a company named Harmony. They made other "artists" in the series but who cares about them. The last item is kinda funny & elegant all at the same time, ha ha. It's a Fine-Silk Dress Tie with Andy's famous Pop Art graphic of a Pepsi-Cola Bottle Cap. I haven't really researched these ties that hard but I'll bet ya that they did one with Campbell's Soup Cans, ha ha!

Fine Art Painting: WARHOL WIG ON LITTLE KID By Ron English
From my ANDY BLOG it's kinda obvious that I'm a HUGE Fan of Pop Art, or any kind of ART really! One of my favorite "Modern Day" Pop Artists is a guy named Ron English. He uses a lot of Pop Culture references in his work & sometimes he's very political. He's becoming quite popular so many readers might already know about him, great stuff!! Here's one of his Pop Art paintings showing a pre-adolescent Andy Warhol. ( I love the Silver "Fright Wig" on this little kid, ha ha! ). Every time I see this painting it cracks me up! Plus, it's a well-executed piece of ART. If you'd like to see more work by this guy be sure to check out his website:

Andy Warhol Teams Up With The SONY Company!
In the 1980's Warhol was asked by the Sony Corporation to do an art print for their super-popular Sony Walkman. The above art graphic is a representation of that great poster! They also asked Warhol to appear in their magazine print ad for Sony Beta videotapes. Here's a photo of that, now classic, magazine ad...enjoy!

WARHOL BACKGROUNDS: Wacky Wallpapers Wednesday!
We thought a great gimmick for the ANDY BLOG would be that EVERY Wednesday we would post 2 fresh brand-new Andy Warhol themed Desktop backgrounds. Hence the name, "Warhol Wacky Wallpapers Wednesday"! Yeah, that's a lot of W's, ha ha! The 1st one is a partial shot of the cover to a new book titled ANDY WARHOL GIANT-SIZE. I am completely obsessed with this HUGE Hardback Book as it's one of the best ever made! But it is kind of expensive so I might have to wait awhile, ha ha! The 2nd Desktop Wallpaper is a photo taken at the New York City MUSEUM OF MODERN ART ( MOMA ) where they own the original 32 Campbell's Soup Cans by Andy...talk about an iconic image, these are modern day Art Masterpieces! You can use these to brighten your desktop or use as a background in a Warhol-Theme MySpace Layout...Enjoy!

Photo: WARHOL BANNER & HURST For SUPERNOVA Art Show in Canada
Our dear friend Lisa sent us this lovely photo of an extremely cool looking promotional-gimmick idea for an Andy Warhol Art Show in Ontario, Canada. They painted a vintage Hurst Funeral Car Black & Pepto-Bismol pink!! That must have got some attention, ha ha! The promo was for an art show titled, "ANDY WARHOL SUPERNOVA: STARS, DEATH, & DISASTERS, 1962 - 1964 AT THE ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO. Wow! Both the banner on the building & the way they did the car look really really amazing, Thanks Lisa! If there are any other readers with cool Warhol-related photos then please send them today. We love when people share great stuff like this.

Video: ANDY WARHOL EATS A HAMBURGER!
OK, this video is kinda weird but it's meant to be an homage to Warhol's famous art film "EAT". A film director who did a short movie on the life of Andy Warhol also made this art film that is very surreal & fun to watch, in a strange voyeuristic way, enjoy!
Who's Andy Warhol POP ART Painting Portrait is This?
One of my favorite aspects to Andy Warhol's art are the many portraits he did of famous and/or rich people. These Pop Art paintings have become icons in the art world & the "style" is copied by many graphic artists today. Here are 2 examples of one such portrait. Now, the thing that's driving me crazy is I got this picture ( and was gonna publish the information ) from an Australian Government website but I totally forgot the name of it & lost the bookmark! This guy was a high official for their government & had his portrait done. Arrrggghhh, oh well, you can still enjoy it's beauty, ha ha!
PHOTO: Andy Warhol Meets Surrealist Art Master Salvador Dali
A friend to the ANDY BLOG sent us this wonderful black & white photo of the moment Andy Warhol met Salvador Dali, the Surrealist. They are shown here goofing around for the camera, ha ha! Thank You Mary Jean! We want to invite all our readers to send RARE & unique pics of Andy....go ahead, ya know you want too!

Customizing Your Kitchen Using Andy Warhol Art Print Posters
A long time ago, while researching Andy Warhol on the internet, I came across this guy's web page that was an interesting "Do-It-Yourself" home improvement-type web page that had a lot of DIY decorating tips & ideas. One thing he did was he made a totally "Warhol Obsessed" Kitchen. I think it was an extremely clever idea & looks really cool! He took Warhol Posters & applied them to his kitchen cabinets. It's sort-of extreme but graphically it's really nice. I'm sorry that I have forgot the URL to his web site but I'm sure you can find it pretty easily if you do a search for "Warhol Kitchen".

Humor Photo: ANDY WARHOL SOUVENIR T-SHIRT From Seattle?
OK, I found this picture on eBay along time ago & it always cracks me up!! It's a souvenir T-Shirt from Seattle, Washington & I've always wondered what Andy has to do with that city? I mean, he most famously known for being from both Pittsburgh & New York City. Anyway, the T-Shirts graphics are really cheesy & kinda cool. Andy would have loved it!

VIDEO: Andy Warhol on The Love Boat TV Show 1985
Andy Warhol made a guest appearance on now classic TV Show "The Love Boat", well after its decline, in 1985. In his book "Andy Warhol's Diary" he talks about being on the TV Show & how he was so nervous. He said he messed up his lines, a lot! Below is a YouTube video clip from that classic TV Show. In this clip he discusses his art with Tom Bosley, enjoy!
ART PRINT: Campbell's Tomato Soup Can Shopping Bag Serigraph ©1966
Campbell's Tomato Soup Can Shopping Bag Serigraph ( measures 17" X 19 1/2" ) published for an Andy Warhol exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Massachussets, dated ©October 1st - November 6th, 1966. I saw one of these a few years back at an Art Museum in Kansas & it was amazing. I like how he used such an unconventional item to silkscreen his famous image on.
